Red Bank&#8217;s not my hometown, but I spend enough time there and feel like I know just about everyone, so it feels like home to me.<br \/><\/span><br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.somewhereinnj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/clowns.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5201560512079524466\" style=\"DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.somewhereinnj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/clowns-300x200.jpg\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><span style=\"font-size:85%;\">There were politicians and dozens of firetrucks with their sirens wailing, girl scouts and church groups. And clowns. I liked the clowns best. This was the closest thing to a marching band &#8211; don&#8217;t high school bands do parades anymore?<\/p>\n<p><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.somewhereinnj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/funnyhats.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5201560409000309346\" style=\"DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.somewhereinnj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/funnyhats-300x200.jpg\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><span style=\"font-size:85%;\">Besides the clowns, there were people in funny hats waving and smiling in great old-fashioned cars like celebrities. Small town life&#8230; fun!<br \/><\/span><br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.somewhereinnj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/westsidescott.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5201559962323710546\" style=\"DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.somewhereinnj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/westsidescott-200x300.jpg\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><span style=\"font-size:85%;\">The firemen were very happy cause their trucks were shiny and they got to play with the lights and sirens without having to rush off to save anyone.<br \/><\/span><br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.somewhereinnj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/trickyrickie.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5201559867834430018\" style=\"DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.somewhereinnj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/trickyrickie-200x300.jpg\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><span style=\"font-size:85%;\">Firemen smile much more easily than policemen do. Ever notice that? He&#8217;s my friend and I still couldn&#8217;t get a smile out of him! Jeez&#8230; definitley not in a parade state of mind.<br \/><\/span><br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.somewhereinnj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/jerseygirl.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5201559571481686578\" style=\"DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.somewhereinnj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/jerseygirl-200x300.jpg\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><span style=\"font-size:85%;\">Part of the fun of a parade and a camera is the opportunity to take random pictures of friendly strangers with funny t-shirts.<br \/><\/span><br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.somewhereinnj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/militantgardener.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5201559236474237474\" style=\"DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.somewhereinnj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/militantgardener-197x300.jpg\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><span style=\"font-size:85%;\">Marching through town with an audience on the sidewalk seems to bring out the charisma in some people&#8230; this trowel-waving garden club lady was hilarious! She and her cohorts take care of the summer plantings in the downtown area.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.somewhereinnj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/rb100.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5201559038905741842\" style=\"DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.somewhereinnj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/rb100-200x300.jpg\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><span style=\"font-size:85%;\">The kids in the parade had a ball.. though I wondered how some of the little ones managed to last the whole distance of the parade&#8230;  it was at least an hour long and snaked from the river on the east side of town to a picnic at a park on the west side.<\/p>\n<p>Tomorrow the fun continues with a boat parade on the river, but I have to miss that for a surprise party.<\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\ude09<br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<div> <\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I got to perch like a bird at street light height today to photograph Red Bank&#8217;s centennial parade.
