I&#8217;d about had it by noontime, when this really started to feel like birding boot camp, but things picked up and the weather finally cleared and the darn bugs gave it a rest.<\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\ude09<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.somewhereinnj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/flowernerding.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5220838362813022658\" style=\"DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.somewhereinnj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/flowernerding-200x300.jpg\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><span style=\"font-size:85%;\">Plus, there were new wildflowers and other nerdy people to enjoy them with.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bp1.blogger.com\/_YcXlERVmPdE\/SHQkhO5zsXI\/AAAAAAAABvE\/VvkGuZqNLt4\/s800-h\/viper\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5220838021384089970\" style=\"DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.somewhereinnj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/viper-27sbugloss-200x300.jpg\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><span style=\"font-size:85%;\">Viper&#8217;s Bugloss: a pretty roadside weed. That gorgeous shade of blue gives away its place in the borage family.<br \/><\/span><br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.somewhereinnj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/scottiecalling.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5220837842244328402\" style=\"DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.somewhereinnj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/scottiecalling-200x300.jpg\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><span style=\"font-size:85%;\">Scott thigh-deep in ferns trying to call in Barred Owls: no luck, but he managed to really t-off a family of Sapsuckers. They are very excitable birds!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.somewhereinnj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/blackbacked.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5220837622908667890\" style=\"DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.somewhereinnj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/blackbacked-200x300.jpg\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><span style=\"font-size:85%;\">We found a real treat late in the day; begging calls from a dark swampy place off the side of the road led us to this baby Black-backed Woodpecker. If you squint your eyes you can see one of the parents feeding it at the nest entrance. Click on the pic! We also had really nice looks at Ruffed Grouse &#8211; a hen with two chicks along the side of the road.<br \/><\/span><br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.somewhereinnj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/atlantisondogbane.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5220837542735965842\" style=\"DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.somewhereinnj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/atlantisondogbane-300x200.jpg\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><span style=\"font-size:85%;\">Dogbane was just coming into flower and drew in this Atlantis Fritillary&#8230;<br \/><\/span><br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.somewhereinnj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/clearwingondogbane.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5220837419235723026\" style=\"DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.somewhereinnj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/clearwingondogbane-300x200.jpg\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><span style=\"font-size:85%;\">and lots of Clearwing Moths which are impossible to photograph well, I think.<br \/><\/span><br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.somewhereinnj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/Mourning.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5220837287342469858\" style=\"DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.somewhereinnj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/Mourning-300x199.jpg\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><span style=\"font-size:85%;\">Prettiest bird of the day was this singing Mourning Warbler &#8211; a gorgeous and cooperative male photographed by Scott. <em>You knew already I didn&#8217;t take that pic, right?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\ude09<br \/><\/span><br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.somewhereinnj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/groupwithspencer.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5220839293903174578\" style=\"DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.somewhereinnj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/groupwithspencer-300x200.jpg\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><span style=\"font-size:85%;\">At day&#8217;s end, I guilted the others into the obligatory group shot.
