{"id":637,"date":"2008-10-30T04:41:00","date_gmt":"2008-10-30T04:41:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.somewhereinnj.com\/?p=637"},"modified":"2014-10-01T03:47:27","modified_gmt":"2014-10-01T03:47:27","slug":"hints-that-your-friends-might-be-just-a-little-nerdy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.somewhereinnj.com\/?p=637","title":{"rendered":"Hints that your friends might be just a little nerdy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.somewhereinnj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/sweetgum.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5262787833743403602\" style=\"DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 214px; TEXT-ALIGN: center\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.somewhereinnj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/sweetgum-300x200.jpg\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><span style=\"font-size:85%;\">So we were on a non-birdy bird walk, led by my friends <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.njaudubon.org\/Centers\/SHBO\/Leaders.html\"><span style=\"font-size:85%;\">Scott and Linda<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-size:85%;\"> from <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.njaudubon.org\/Centers\/SHBO\/\"><span style=\"font-size:85%;\">SHBO<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-size:85%;\">, at the Beanery in Cape May. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.somewhereinnj.com\/?p=1289\"><span style=\"font-size:85%;\">The Beanery<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-size:85%;\"> can be a very fun place for birds, but it was really quiet in the rain and wind that day.<\/p>\n<p>Good friends or good naturalists can find plenty of ways to amuse themselves when the birding is slow. Mostly we made bad jokes and acted obnoxiously. We had plenty of opportunities to embarrass ourselves this way over the course of the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Every so often there&#8217;d be a new plant we could dork out about, like these sweet gum balls that Lynne wanted to try planting at home in Minnesota or the wild persimmon fruit that I got them to taste just by promising them it wasn&#8217;t poisonous.<\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n<p><\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_YcXlERVmPdE\/SQktiVHh5xI\/AAAAAAAACLY\/rSuIor7qd_8\/s800-h\/vulturedance.jpg\"><span style=\"font-size:85%;\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5262787707366663954\" style=\"DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 214px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.somewhereinnj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/vulturedance-200x300.jpg\" border=\"0\" \/><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-size:85%;\">I don&#8217;t guess many non-birders dance this way when spotting a Black Vulture for the first time. A little nerdy? Yes. Fun? Who needs birds when you&#8217;ve got friends that are just as nerdy as you are, anyway?<\/p>\n<p><em>Note: Susan, Lynne, Jay from <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.birdjam.com\/\"><em>birdJam<\/em><\/a><em> and Delia will not take offense at my calling them nerdy. We&#8217;re cut from the same cloth, I think.
