I find them painted on falling-down buildings along rural roads and in the old parts of sleepy Southern towns.<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.somewhereinnj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/IMG_6889.jpg\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" border=\"0\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.somewhereinnj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/IMG_6889-199x300.jpg\" width=\"266\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>Wikipedia, my source for everything that I didn&#8217;t know had a name, says they were most common before the Great Depression and that the artists who painted them were known as &#8220;wall dogs.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.somewhereinnj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/IMG_6883.jpg\" style=\"clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" border=\"0\" height=\"266\" src=\"https:\/\/www.somewhereinnj.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/IMG_6883-300x199.jpg\" width=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>In some places, there&#8217;s an effort to preserve or restore them. It&#8217;s on the way to Tallahassee and, despite many tries, I&#8217;ve yet to get a photo that I like.<\/p>\n<p>Apparently, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=ghost+signs&amp;client=firefox-a&amp;hs=gLc&amp;rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&amp;tbm=isch&amp;tbo=u&amp;source=univ&amp;sa=X&amp;ei=-HJ9UtmtLI7OkQelq4GIAQ&amp;ved=0CDIQsAQ&amp;biw=1185&amp;bih=590\">other people like to photograph these old signs<\/a>, too.
