So I stood still<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
in the day’s exquisite early morning light<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
and so I didn’t crush with my great feet<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
any small or unusual thing just happening to pass by<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
where I was passing by<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
on my way to the blueberry fields,<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
and maybe it was the toad<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
and maybe it was the June beetle<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
and maybe it was the pink and tender worm<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
who does his work without limbs or eyes<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
and does it well<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
or maybe it was the walking stick, still frail<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
and walking humbly by, looking for a tree,<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
or maybe, like Blake’s wondrous meeting, it was<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
the elves, carrying one of their own<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
on a rose-petal coffin away, away<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
into the deep grasses. After awhile<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
the quaintest voice said, “Thank you.” And then there was silence.<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
For the rest, I would keep you wondering.”<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
