Hurricane Hanna

I was hoping some of these (beach plums) would be ripe for picking this weekend…

but the ocean looks like this and I’m hunkering down inside instead.

Anyone else having a hurricane party today? Any good beach plum jelly recipes to share? Stories? Storm jokes?

😉

  1. Mmmmm… beach plum jelly! My daughter brings it to me from someone who works with her at the library.

Glad you got that great ocean picture

  2. So post-tropical storm Hannah has moved through here in the last 12 hours. It was mostly a rain event with no wind to speak of. There is a small lake in the backyard now.

Nigella Lawson in “How to be a Domestic Goddess” has a recipe for Pickled Plums that looks interesting. I think that I am going to try it with some of the plums from the tree in the backyard. It might be something nice to have around for the Christmas season.

  3. I won The Beach plum Jelly contest on Nantucket Island Last Year an this is Secret ,so don’t go spreding it around ,OK

6 cups of Beach Plum Juice
    6 Cups of Sugar
Shhhhhh secret part squeese one leamon into the juice
If you have a lotta un ripe berries or white berries you may not need pectin . BUT I hate to do things twice so I use pectin
And just make sure everything is clean when makein the jelly .

Its fun beating the Girls at the Fair LOL

  4. Wow, those waves look pretty scary! As a Midwesterner, I can’t even imagine what it must be like to experience a hurricane (and not sure if I want to…..)
Hope all is well with you & yours Laura.

  5. No recipes, no jokes.
And no real storm stories. We got some rain–enough to green things up again. Trees were losing leaves early because we had no rain all August. During the rain, there was a power blip–but lights stayed on. However, tonight we discovered our pool pump had flipped a breaker switch and had been off all day. No harm done, just a small aftermath of Hanna’s trip through central PA.
